The regional partners for sustainability in the community and education launched a new year of effort in Hanadiv Forest, an Edible Forest in Binyamina.
Hanadiv Forest is a community initiative that functions within the Regional Partnership for Sustainability. It combines ecological rehabilitation and preservation with the production of food for people to eat. The local community, which will be the main beneficiary of the forest's products, is actively involved in its planning and implementation.
Hence the public was cordially invited to celebrate the begining of a new working year along with the leading lights of the partnership in the participating communities. In the delightful surroundings of the Edible Forest, every guest had the opportunity to take part in wonderfully creative, experiential activities that demonstrated the forest's rationale. They were treated to guided walks between the various activity stations; they got their hands into the earth and planted groups of plants while learning about the importance of fertile soil and mulch; and they found out how to make lanterns that illuminate the forest at night with a magical glow. And to end the evening, everyone gathered round a bonfire for storytelling and a lot of communal warmth.
