An initiative that offers a new approach to environmental issues, the Regional Sustainability Partnership links five neighboring local councils(Zichron Ya'akov, Binyamina-Givat Ada, Jisser el-Zarka, Alona and the Carmel Coast, and Ramat Hanadiv)
in order to further their common long-term sustainability goals.
The Partnership, the leading forum of its kind in the region, is a platform that brings together representatives of key stakeholders in the entire region: local office-holders, farmers, educators, environmental organizations, small business owners and more.
On 21 October, 2015, the forum met for the second time. Topping the agenda were the following points of discussion: priorities for sustainability; expanding [the community's knowledge of these topics; options for future partnership; and updates on the progress of partnership-building. About 100 people attended the meeting, among them five of the partnering council heads, the director of Ramat Hanadiv, and a wide range of stakeholders from all the participating locales.
The forum chose three topics on which to focus their efforts:
coexistence between nature, agriculture and humankind; sustainable local economy; and sustainable transportation.
Other priorities, slightly lower on their list, included: working to eliminate trash; decreasing the consumption of environmental resources; encouraging sustainable tourism; improving the quality and accessibility of water resources; and establishing sustainable regional infrastructures.
